Amazon's Business Cards Left Amex for U.S. Bank: What Changed

Amazon's business credit cards changed issuers on August 14, 2026. American Express is out, U.S. Bank is in, and the new cards run on the Mastercard network. Existing cardholders got replacement cards around the transition date, and carried-over rewards became redeemable on August 20.
One side of the card got better. The other got noticeably narrower.
What Improved
- 5% back on up to $150,000 in annual U.S. spend at Amazon Business, Amazon.com, AWS, and Whole Foods Market for Prime members — up from a $120,000 cap on the Amex version.
- 3% back in those same categories for non-Prime business accounts.
- Installment financing, which the no-annual-fee Amex version never offered, plus automatic savings offers through the Mastercard network.
What Got Worse
The new U.S. Bank points are not transferable to airline or hotel partners. They redeem at a flat 1 cent per point — statement credit or Amazon purchase, and that's it.
If you were routing Amazon Business rewards into flexible currency or holding them for outsized award redemptions, that path is closed. A point is now worth a cent. Full stop.
Kudos recommends the best card to use at checkout purchase by purchase, so a card that's excellent on Amazon and mediocre everywhere else gets used exactly where it wins.
Three Things to Check on Your Account
- Confirm your balance transferred. Log in and verify the number matches what you had on the Amex card.
- Update autopay and stored payment methods. New issuer means a new card number, and any vendor holding the old Amex number will fail.
- Re-run your card assignment for Amazon spend. A flat 1-cent redemption changes which card is genuinely best for large purchases, especially if another card in your wallet earns transferable points at a similar rate.
At 5% back redeeming at exactly a cent, this card is straightforwardly good for Amazon and AWS spend. It's no longer a card that quietly generates flexible currency — which means it belongs in a stack rather than being your default for everything.
