Amex Offer Credit Hasn’t Posted Yet? Here's How to Fix It (Step-by-Step)
July 1, 2025

You did everything right. You added the Amex Offer, made the qualifying purchase, and now you're waiting for your statement credit to show up. But it hasn't. Sound familiar?
Don't panic. Missing Amex Offer credits are more common than you'd think, and in most cases, there's a clear fix. Here's everything you need to know about why your credit might not be posting and how to get it applied.
How Long Does an Amex Offer Credit Take to Post?
Technically, Amex's terms allow up to 90 days after the offer end date for a statement credit to appear. But in practice, most credits post within a day or two of your qualifying purchase.
If it's been more than a few days and you haven't seen anything, you'll likely need to reach out to Amex directly to get it applied manually. Credits that don't post quickly rarely resolve on their own.
Before You Call: Double-Check These Things
Before contacting Amex, make sure you actually met all the offer conditions:
- Did you spend the minimum required amount? Check the offer terms carefully. Some require a single transaction to hit the threshold.
- Did you shop at an eligible location? Some offers are limited to specific store locations or exclude certain merchant categories.
- Was the purchase made with the correct card? Amex Offers are tied to the specific card number the offer was added to, not just the account. If you have multiple Amex cards, confirm you used the right one.
- Did you use an authorized user card? Offers are typically linked to the primary cardholder's card number. Transactions made on an authorized user's card (which carries a different card number) may not trigger the credit automatically, though Amex has occasionally applied credits as a goodwill gesture in these cases.
How to Get Your Amex Offer Credit Applied Manually
For Standard Amex Cards
If your card is issued directly by American Express, you have a few options:
- Online Chat or Secure Message: Log into your Amex account and use the chat feature or send a secure message. Secure messaging is often preferred since reps sometimes need time to review your case and may need to escalate before manually applying the credit.
- Call the Number on the Back of Your Card: This works well for standard Amex-issued cards. Be ready to explain the offer and your qualifying purchase.
Pro tip: You don't have to wait the full 90 days if you have a standard Amex card. Many cardholders have had success getting the credit applied manually well before the deadline.
For Co-Branded or Prepaid Amex Cards
Bank-branded and prepaid Amex cards are a bit trickier since they're managed by a third-party issuer. Here are three approaches worth trying:
- Tweet @AskAmex: This has worked well for many cardholders. Try something like: "My Amex Offer credit for [merchant] hasn't posted, and it's been over 90 days — can you help?" They'll often ask you to verify your identity through your main Amex login and can process the credit from there. Note: This works best if you have a separate regular Amex account.
- Call 1-800-297-5000: This is the dedicated Amex Offers support line. Results can vary — some reps are very familiar with Amex Offers, others aren't. If you hit a wall, ask for a supervisor. This line is especially useful if you're missing credits across multiple cards, since they can process all claims at once.
- Call the Number on the Back of Your Card: This rarely works for co-branded cards but is occasionally successful for Bluebird and Serve cards since Amex Offers is an official benefit on those cards.
Important: For co-branded and prepaid cards, Amex will typically ask you to wait the full 90 days from the offer end date before they'll take action. Mark your calendar so you don't miss the window.
Special Situations to Watch Out For
Your Card Number Changed
If your card was reissued (due to a lost card, fraud, or your bank proactively replacing it), the Amex Offer you synced to the old card number won't transfer automatically. You'll need to re-add the offer to your new card number, and if you already made a qualifying purchase in the meantime, contact Amex to see if they can manually apply the credit.
You Went Through a Cash Back Portal
Good news here: shopping through a cash back portal generally doesn't affect Amex Offer eligibility, as long as your final checkout goes through the merchant's standard checkout flow.
New Store Locations
Occasionally, newer store locations aren't yet fully enrolled in an Amex Offer even if the merchant is technically part of the promotion. If this happens, it's worth calling Amex. They may apply the credit as a one-time exception.
The Bottom Line
Amex Offers are one of the best ways to maximize value from your credit card spending, and credits post successfully the vast majority of the time. When something does slip through the cracks, a quick message or phone call to Amex is usually all it takes to get it resolved.
The key is knowing which contact method works best for your card type — and not waiting too long to reach out.
Never Miss an Amex Offer Again
Manually hunting for and activating card offers is exactly the kind of thing that leads to missed credits in the first place. That's where Kudos comes in.
Kudos automatically detects and activates card-linked offers across Amex, Chase, Citi, and Bank of America — so you're never leaving money on the table. Here's what makes it different:
- Auto-activation: Visit your issuer portal with the Kudos browser extension installed, and it automatically activates all available offers across your cards — no clicking through hundreds of tiles.
- Smart checkout reminders: Shopping online? Kudos surfaces your active offers at the exact moment you're checking out and recommends the card that maximizes your total savings.
- Real-time recommendations: A 25% card-linked offer beats a 2% rewards rate every time. Kudos recalculates which card you should use based on your active offers.
- Benefits tracker: See all your activated offers, statement credits, and card perks in one dashboard — and get alerted before anything expires unused.
The best way to avoid a missing Amex Offer credit is to make sure you never forget to activate one. Add Kudos to Chrome for free and put your card offers on autopilot.
