Bank of America Points Are Coming to Atmos Rewards in 2027: What We Know So Far
September 27, 2026

The content on this page is accurate as of the posting date; however, some of the offers mentioned may have expired.
On September 29, 2026, Alaska Air Group announced that customers with eligible Bank of America card products will be able to transfer points into Atmos™ Rewards starting in 2027. Until now, Bank of America's own card points could not be moved into the Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines loyalty program at all.
The announcement came as part of a larger Atmos Rewards update that also introduced a debit card, new earning options, and new lifestyle partners. Below is what Alaska confirmed, what it left open, and how to position your wallet in the meantime.

What Did Alaska Announce About Bank of America Transfers?
Alaska's official announcement confirms three things:
- Timing: the transfer option is planned for 2027. No month has been given.
- Eligibility: it will apply to "eligible Bank of America card products." Alaska did not name which cards.
- More banks later: Atmos Rewards plans to add transfers from "other select global financial institutions" over time.
Alaska was also direct about the business reason. Selling points to Bank of America creates a new revenue stream for the airline, the same model that has made bank transfer partnerships common across the industry.
What Has Not Been Announced Yet
Several details that matter most to cardholders are still unknown. Alaska has not shared the transfer ratio, a minimum transfer amount, whether an annual cap applies, or how long transfers will take to post. Treat any specific ratio you see online as speculation until Bank of America or Alaska publishes terms.

How This Came Together
The move was hinted at months ago. At the TD Cowen Future of the Consumer Conference on June 3, 2026, Alaska Air Group CFO Shane Tackett said the airline would like Bank of America's proprietary cards to be able to "convert to points and redeem" in Atmos Rewards, as reported by Doctor of Credit.
Tackett tied the idea to Alaska's new co-brand contract with Bank of America, which he said aligns both companies around growing the program. He also noted Alaska is Bank of America's largest co-brand partner by a wide margin. Four months later, the idea became a stated plan with a target year.

Which Bank of America Cards Will Be Able to Transfer to Atmos?
Alaska has not published a list, so any answer today is an educated guess. The most likely candidates are Bank of America's points earning cards, since cash back cards do not earn a points currency to transfer.
- Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Elite Credit Card: the issuer's top travel card, and a natural fit if Bank of America limits transfers to premium products at launch.
- Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Credit Card: the mid tier travel card, also earning Bank of America points.
- Bank of America® Travel Rewards Credit Card: a no annual fee points card. Whether a no fee card will qualify is an open question.
All three cards can earn more for Bank of America Preferred Rewards members. If transfers go live, that boost could also raise the number of Atmos points you end up with per dollar spent.

Does This Make the Atmos Credit Cards Less Useful?
Not necessarily. The Atmos co-brand cards come with flight perks that a transferable points card does not, such as free checked bags, preferred boarding, and companion benefits. If you fly Alaska or Hawaiian often, those benefits can be worth more than the points themselves.
Those perks only pay off if you actually use them. The Kudos Benefits Tracker, part of Kudos Premium, automatically tracks the credits and benefits on the cards in your wallet, shows what you've used and what's still available, and flags what's about to reset, so you can see whether your Atmos card is earning back its annual fee.
Where the math may shift is everyday spending. Once transfers launch, a Bank of America points card could become a second way to earn Atmos points, with the option to redeem for something else if you do not fly. Your best setup will depend on the transfer ratio, which is still unknown.
Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Card: the premium Atmos card, which Alaska highlights as one of the fastest ways to earn status through card spending.

- Atmos™ Rewards Ascent Visa Signature® Credit Card: the core personal Atmos card.
- Atmos™ Rewards Visa Signature® Business Card: scheduled for a refresh in late 2026 that Alaska says will add 10x points on eligible purchases through Atmos Rewards for Business, lounge passes, and free same day confirmed flight changes. Full details are due later this fall.

Other Atmos Rewards Changes Announced on September 29
The Bank of America news was one piece of a broader program update. The changes most relevant to cardholders:
- Atmos Rewards debit card: planned for early 2027, with pre-registration open now at atmosrewards.com/debit. Alaska says it will earn points and status points, with no foreign transaction fees and free points sharing.
- Choose how you earn on flights: starting October 1, 2026, members can pick whether flights departing on or after January 1, 2027 earn by distance traveled, price paid, or segments flown. Current members who do nothing stay on distance. New members joining on or after January 1, 2027 default to price paid. You can switch once per calendar year.
- Atmos Communities: expanding from two groups to six on October 1, 2026, adding options for international, family, outdoor, and culinary travelers.
- New lifestyle partners: including Alterra Mountain Company, Nordstrom, and Pebble Beach Resorts.
What Should You Do Before Transfers Launch?
There is no reason to rush into a new card on this news alone. The transfer ratio will decide whether Bank of America points become a strong source of Atmos points or a minor one.
A few low risk steps make sense now:
- Hold your Bank of America points rather than cashing them out, if you think you will want Atmos points in 2027. Once points are redeemed, you cannot transfer them.
- Make your earning choice for 2027 flights after October 1, based on whether you tend to fly long distances, buy pricier fares, or take many short trips.
- Watch for the published terms from Bank of America and Alaska, including which cards qualify, the ratio, and any caps.
Kudos tracks the cards in your wallet and shows which one earns the most on each purchase. When transfer terms are announced, you can use Kudos Explore to see how a Bank of America card stacks up against the Atmos cards for your own spending.
