Chase Sapphire Reserve Marriott Gold Status 2026: How to Get It Free
July 1, 2025

If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and you're seeing a new "Gold Elite Status" perk pop up in your benefits dashboard, you're not imagining things. Chase and Marriott have brought back their annual promotion that gives Sapphire Reserve cardholders three months of complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, with a path to keep it for over a year and a half if you play your cards right.
Here's everything you need to know about the offer, whether it's worth activating, and how to make the most of it.
What Is the Chase Sapphire Reserve Marriott Gold Promo?
This is a recurring promotion, not a permanent card benefit. Every summer, Chase and Marriott team up to offer Sapphire Reserve (and J.P. Morgan Reserve) cardholders complimentary Gold Elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. You have to register for it manually, and it isn't automatic just because you carry the card.
For 2026, the terms are:
- Registration window: July 1 through September 30, 2026
- Where to register: Log into your Chase account, go to your Sapphire Reserve card, and look under the "Card Benefits" or "Enjoy Membership Perks" section for the Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite offer
- What you get right away: Three months of Gold Elite status starting from your registration date
- How to extend it: Complete three paid, qualifying nights at Marriott properties during that three-month window
- How long the extension lasts: Status stays active through February 2028 if you hit those three nights
If you already hold Gold Elite status or higher with Marriott, you're not eligible. This offer is meant to bring new or lower-tier Marriott members into the fold, not stack on top of existing status.

What Does Marriott Gold Elite Status Actually Get You?
Gold is the second rung on Marriott's elite ladder, above Silver but below Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador. It's a modest tier, and most people who've used it describe it as a nice-to-have rather than a game changer. The core perks are:
- 25% bonus points on paid stays
- Enhanced Wi-Fi where standard Wi-Fi isn't already free
- Room upgrades when available, though these are far from guaranteed
- 2 p.m. late checkout, subject to hotel availability
- Occasional welcome amenities like water or a small snack, depending on the property
Multiple frequent travelers have pointed out that upgrades and late checkout are inconsistent domestically since Marriott added "subject to availability" language across the board. International properties tend to honor Gold perks more reliably, so the value swings a lot based on where you're staying.
Is It Worth Activating?
Yes, for one simple reason: there's no downside. Activating the promotion costs you nothing and takes a couple of minutes. Even if you never end up extending it past the initial three months, you'll get whatever modest perks come your way at zero cost.
Whether you go further and book three paid nights to lock in status through February 2028 is a separate decision. A few things to weigh:
- You need direct bookings. Nights must be booked through Marriott's own website or app on qualifying rates. Stays booked through third parties, including the Chase Travel portal, don't count. Award nights paid with points don't count either.
- You need to already be staying at Marriott properties. This offer isn't a reason to plan a trip around a Marriott hotel. If you're loyal to a different chain or mostly book through OTAs, the extension isn't worth chasing.
- Timing matters. If you have an upcoming trip at a Marriott property, it can make sense to hold off registering until closer to that stay so your three-month clock lines up with when you'll actually rack up qualifying nights.
How This Compares to Other Ways To Get Marriott Status
If Marriott Gold status matters to you, the Sapphire Reserve promotion isn't the only route, and it's worth knowing where it fits:
- American Express Platinum Card® and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
- Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card
- Co-branded Marriott cards like the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card and Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card
- Marriott cards also earn elite night credits toward status you qualify for on your own, up to 40 combined credits per year across one personal and one business card.
In other words, if you're a frequent Marriott guest, there are steadier paths to status than an annual opt-in promotion. But if the Sapphire Reserve is already your primary travel card and Marriott status is a bonus rather than a priority, this promotion is free value worth grabbing.

How To Register, Step by Step
- Log into your Chase account.
- Select your Sapphire Reserve card.
- Find the Card Benefits section and look for the Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status offer.
- Enter your Marriott Bonvoy member number (or enroll in Marriott Bonvoy first if you don't already have an account).
- Submit your registration before September 30, 2026.
- Check your Marriott account within a few business days. Status typically posts within three business days of registering.
Bottom Line
This is a recurring, low-effort perk that Chase has offered in some form for several years running. There's no cost to activating it, so it makes sense to register even if you're not sure you'll extend it. If you already have Marriott stays on the calendar for the back half of 2026, timing your registration around them and hitting three paid nights turns a three-month trial into status that lasts well into 2028.
