[[ SINGLE_CARD * {"id": "106", "isExpanded": "false", "bestForCategoryId": "15", "bestForText": "Luxury Travel", "headerHint": "Global Lounge Access"} ]]

How It Earns

The Platinum Card earns 5X Membership Rewards® points on flights booked directly with airlines or through American Express Travel®, on up to $500,000 per calendar year, then 1X. It also earns 5X on prepaid hotels booked through American Express Travel and 1X on other purchases.

There are no foreign transaction fees. See the card details above for the current annual fee.

Key Benefits

  • The Global Lounge Collection®, with more than 1,550 lounges, including Centurion® Lounges, 10 Delta Sky Club® visits when flying on an eligible Delta flight, and Priority Pass™ membership (enrollment required)

United Quest vs. The Platinum Card: Head to Head

Lounge Access

The United Quest Card doesn't include lounge membership. The Platinum Card's Global Lounge Collection spans more than 1,550 lounges, including Centurion Lounges and Priority Pass locations.

Rewards and Redemption

The Quest earns United MileagePlus® miles, which are best for United and partner award flights, and its annual award flight discounts make those redemptions cheaper. The Platinum Card earns Membership Rewards® points, which can transfer to 20 airline and hotel partners.

Airport and Travel Perks

The Quest focuses on United trips: two free checked bags for you and a companion, Group 2 boarding, a $200 United travel credit, and PQP toward Premier status. The Platinum Card spreads its value across lounges, hotel status, and credits for hotels, Uber, dining, and entertainment.

Annual Fee

The Quest costs $350 a year. The Platinum Card's annual fee is among the highest on the market; see the card details above for the current amount. Neither card charges foreign transaction fees.

Who Should Choose the United Quest?

The United Quest Card fits travelers who fly United several times a year and check bags. The $200 TravelBank cash and the anniversary award discount can offset much of the fee if you would fly United anyway.

It's also a good fit if you're working toward United Premier status, thanks to the yearly bonus PQP and PQP earned on spending. Our United Quest vs. United Club comparison shows how it stacks up against United's top card.

Who Should Choose The Platinum Card?

The Platinum Card suits frequent travelers who fly a mix of airlines and want lounge options in more airports, plus Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors status. It makes the most sense if you will use several of its credits each year.

Our Platinum Card review covers each benefit in detail.

Alternatives to Consider

If neither card fits, these two flexible travel cards are worth a look. Both earn rewards you can use beyond a single airline.

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (Rates & Fees) earns 10X miles on hotels and rental cars and 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel, plus 2X miles on all other purchases. It has a $395 annual fee and a 19.74% to 28.74% variable APR, and primary cardholders get access to Capital One Lounges and more than 1,300 Priority Pass™ lounges.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card has a $95 annual fee. It earns 5x points on Chase Travel℠, 3x on dining, 3x at gas stations, EV charging, and vacation homes at top brands, 3x on top streaming services and online grocery (exclusions apply), 2x on all other travel, and 1x on everything else.

Tips for Application Success

Before You Apply

  • Check your credit. Travel rewards cards generally go to applicants with good to excellent credit.
  • Count your trips. Estimate how many United flights and checked bags you have in a typical year.
  • List the credits you would use. Only count statement credits you would spend on anyway.

Application Strategy

  • Know the issuer. Chase and American Express each set their own rules on welcome offer eligibility.
  • Time your application. Apply ahead of a large planned purchase so you can meet any minimum spend naturally.
  • Enroll in benefits. Several perks require enrollment after approval.

Our Methodology

We evaluate nearly 3,000 credit cards across the U.S. market, far more than the roughly 150 cards commonly featured on sites that focus only on products tied to affiliate commissions. Our goal is to give you a complete, unbiased view of the market so you can decide with confidence.

Our editorial team checks card details against issuer sources. You can also explore the full dataset yourself in the Kudos Card Explorer, where more than 95% of cards don't pay us commissions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do both cards offer airport lounge access?

No. The Platinum Card includes the Global Lounge Collection with Centurion Lounges and Priority Pass membership (enrollment required). The United Quest Card doesn't include lounge access.

Can I transfer points from both cards to other loyalty programs?

The Platinum Card earns Membership Rewards points, which transfer to 20 airline and hotel partners. The United Quest Card earns United MileagePlus miles, which stay in the MileagePlus program.

Is the United Quest Card worth $350 a year?

It can be if you use the $200 United travel credit and check bags on United. If you rarely fly United, the credit and bag benefit are hard to use.
