Crate & Barrel Credit Card Review: 10% Back Sounds Great, Until You Try to Use It
July 1, 2025

The Crate & Barrel Visa Signature Credit Card, issued by First Bank & Trust and powered by Imprint, earns 10% at Crate & Barrel, Crate & Kids, CB2, and Hudson Grace. Here's what the rest of the rewards structure looks like, and why the redemption rules matter more than the headline number.
- $0 annual fee
- 10% back at Crate & Barrel, Crate & Kids, CB2, and Hudson Grace
- 4% back on dining and on home retailer/grocery purchases
- 1% back on everything else

The Redemption Rules That Undercut the Rate
A 10% cash back rate with no annual fee is unusually generous until you look at how Reward Dollars actually work. Here are the restrictions:
- Reward Dollars convert automatically into certificates in $20 increments. No partial amounts, and no combining smaller balances toward a bigger certificate
- Certificates expire 90 days after they're issued
- Certificates can't be redeemed at Hudson Grace stores, even though Hudson Grace purchases earn the rewards in the first place
- Each certificate must be used in full, in a single transaction. No splitting one across two purchases
- You can't earn rewards and use special financing on the same purchase. It's one or the other
None of that shows up in the headline rate, and all of it makes the card meaningfully less flexible than a general-purpose cash-back card.
Kudos's Card Explore Tool flags redemption restrictions like these up front, and Benefits Tracker keeps an eye on certificate expiration dates so a 90-day Reward Dollar certificate doesn't quietly expire unused.
What Cardholders Are Reporting
The card's rewards structure isn't the only thing giving people pause. Imprint took over the Crate & Barrel card program from Synchrony, and the transition hasn't been clean for everyone. One WalletHub reviewer described old cards being declined in-store before replacements arrived, a new card number that didn't match what was showing in the online account with no way to correct it, and a phone support line that's “entirely automated with no chance of speaking with a person,” concluding they'd rather cut up the card than deal with it. A recent Reddit thread carries a similar warning in its title alone: r/CreditCards' “Do not sign up for the Imprint Crate & Barrel” post.
To be clear, isolated complaints don't necessarily reflect every cardholder's experience, but a bank transition with reported account and support issues is worth weighing alongside the rewards math, especially for a card with such a high APR.
How It Compares
- Wayfair Credit Card: a comparable home-goods store card, with its own set of redemption terms and high APR
- Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards: 3% back on a home improvement/furnishings category of your choosing, true 0% intro APR (no deferred-interest catch), unrestricted cash redemption - a stronger pick if flexibility matters more than the ceiling rate
- Citi Double Cash® Card: flat 2% back on everything, no brand restrictions, no certificate expiration. This makes it the simplest alternative if you don't shop the four Crate & Barrel brands often enough to make the higher rate worth the fine print
The Bottom Line
If you're a genuinely frequent Crate & Barrel, CB2, Crate & Kids, or Hudson Grace shopper who pays the balance in full every month, just budget for the redemption restrictions and set a reminder before certificates expire. For anyone else, the APR, the certificate rules, and the reported transition issues make a flexible, unrestricted card like Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards or Citi Double Cash the safer default.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5. A strong headline rate for loyalists, weighed down by restrictive redemption terms, a high APR, and real reported friction from the Imprint transition.
