Hilton's 120% Bonus Points Sale: Is Buying Hilton Points Worth It?

Hilton's record 120% points sale runs through Nov. 21. Here's when buying makes sense.

September 27, 2026

Small Kudos square logoAn upside down carrot icon

Hilton Honors is selling points with a 120% bonus from October 7 through November 21, 2026. It is the largest bonus Hilton has offered on purchased points, and it brings the price down to about 0.45 cents per point.

‍

A low price alone does not make it a good deal. Buying points only pays off when you already have a specific stay in mind and the math beats paying cash. Below, we walk through how the sale works, how to run the numbers for your own trip, how it compares with this month's Amex to Hilton transfer bonus and which card to use at checkout.

‍

Kudos tip: Before you buy any points, check what you already have. Kudos tracks the rewards balances on the cards in your wallet, so you can see whether transferable points could cover part of your stay first. Create a free Kudos account to see every balance in one place.

‍

How the Hilton 120% Points Sale Works

‍

Here are the key terms for this promotion:

‍

  • Bonus: up to 120% bonus points on purchases of 5,000 points or more
  • Dates: October 7, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. ET through November 21, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET
  • Normal price: 1 cent per point, or $10 per 1,000 points
  • Sale price: about 0.45 cents per point after the bonus
  • Annual limit: up to 240,000 purchased points per calendar year before the bonus, or 528,000 points after it, for $2,400
  • Fine print: purchases are nonrefundable and purchased points do not count toward elite status

‍

The bonus can be targeted, so your account may show a different offer. Log in to your Hilton Honors account and open the Buy Points page to see what you qualify for before you plan around the 120% figure.

How Much Do Hilton Points Cost During the Sale?

‍

At the 120% tier, every 1,000 points you buy comes with 1,200 bonus points. That turns a $50 purchase of 5,000 points into 11,000 points.

‍

Divide $50 by 11,000 points and you get roughly 0.455 cents per point. That number is your break-even line. If a Hilton award stay gets you more than 0.455 cents of value per point, buying points for that stay costs less than paying the cash rate.

‍

Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on Hilton's standard price of $10 per 1,000 points and a 120% bonus.

Kudos Tip

Is Buying Hilton Points Worth It?

‍

It depends on the hotel and dates you want. Hilton uses dynamic award pricing, so the number of points for a room moves with the cash rate, and some nights are a much better deal on points than others.

‍

To check your own stay, divide the total cash price (including taxes and fees) by the number of points the same room costs. If the result is higher than 0.455 cents, buying points saves you money.

‍

Example: When Buying Points Makes Sense

‍

Say a hotel charges $400 per night, taxes included, or 60,000 points per night. That works out to about 0.67 cents per point, well above the 0.455 cent break-even.

‍

Points are sold in 1,000-point increments, so you would buy 28,000 points for $280 and receive 61,600 points with the bonus. That covers the night and saves you $120 compared with paying cash.

‍

Hypothetical example. Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on a 120% bonus and Hilton's standard price of $10 per 1,000 points.

‍

Example: When It Does Not

‍

Now say a roadside hotel charges $150 per night, or 50,000 points. That is only 0.3 cents per point. Buying 50,000 points at the sale price would cost about $230, so paying $150 in cash is the cheaper choice.

‍

Hypothetical example. Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on a 120% bonus and Hilton's standard price of $10 per 1,000 points.

‍

Longer Stays Can Tip the Math

‍

Hilton Honors Silver, Gold and Diamond members get the fifth night free on Standard Room Reward stays of five nights or more. Using the $400 hotel above, a five-night stay would cost $2,000 in cash or 240,000 points, since you only pay for four nights.

‍

Buying 110,000 points for $1,100 gets you 242,000 points with the bonus, which covers the stay and saves about $900. If you hold elite status and are planning a longer trip, this sale can be very valuable.

‍

Hypothetical example. Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on a 120% bonus, Hilton's standard price of $10 per 1,000 points and the fifth night free benefit.

‍

Kudos tip: Price your stay on the same dates in both cash and points before you buy, and take a screenshot of each. Hilton award prices can shift between the time you buy and the time you book, and purchases cannot be refunded.

Should You Transfer Amex Points to Hilton Instead?

‍

If you have American Express Membership Rewards points, there is a second way to top up your Hilton balance this month. Amex is running a 30% transfer bonus to Hilton Honors through October 14, 2026, so 1,000 Membership Rewards points become 2,600 Hilton points instead of the usual 2,000.

‍

At the sale price, 2,600 Hilton points cost about $11.82 to buy. Transferring 1,000 Amex points to get them only makes sense if you value your Membership Rewards points at less than about 1.18 cents each. Most travelers can get more than that by transferring to airline partners, so buying Hilton points with cash is often the better deal during this sale.

‍

Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on the 30% Amex to Hilton transfer bonus and a 120% bonus on purchased Hilton points.

‍

Cards that earn Membership Rewards points include the American Express® Gold Card (See Rates & Fees) and The Platinum Card® from American Express (See Rates & Fees).

When You Should Skip the Hilton Points Sale

‍

This sale is not a good fit for everyone. Hold off if any of these apply to you:

‍

  • You have no trip planned. Award prices can rise before you book, which erodes the value of points you bought on speculation.
  • You rarely stay at Hilton. Points sitting in an account you do not use are money you cannot get back, since purchases are nonrefundable.
  • The award room is not available. Confirm the exact dates and room type are bookable with points before you buy.
  • The cash rate is low. Budget and midweek stays often price out below the break-even line.

‍

Also keep in mind that Hilton Honors points expire after 24 consecutive months without earning or redeeming activity. Buying points counts as activity, so a small purchase can keep an older balance alive, but you should still plan to use what you buy.

Which Credit Card Should You Use to Buy Hilton Points?

‍

Hilton points purchases are processed by Points.com, not charged by a Hilton hotel. That means the hotel bonus categories on Hilton co-branded cards generally will not apply to the purchase, so a strong flat-rate card is usually the better pick.

‍

The Citi Double Cash® Card earns 2% cash back on every purchase: 1% when you buy and another 1% as you pay for those purchases. To earn cash back, you need to pay at least the minimum due on time. On a $1,100 points purchase, that is $22 back.

‍

Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on the Citi Double Cash® Card's 2% cash back rate.

Earning Hilton Points Without Buying Them

‍

If you stay at Hilton often, a co-branded card can build your balance faster than buying points. These cards earn their highest rates on eligible purchases made directly with hotels and resorts in the Hilton portfolio:

How to Buy Hilton Points During the Sale

  3. Log in to Hilton Honors and open the Buy Points page to confirm your bonus.
  4. Buy at least 5,000 points, in 1,000-point increments, to qualify for the bonus.
  5. Book your award stay as soon as the points post, before award space or pricing changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

‍

When does the Hilton 120% points sale end?

‍

The promotion runs through November 21, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Purchases must be made in a single transaction of 5,000 points or more to earn the bonus.

‍

How much does it cost to buy Hilton points right now?

‍

Hilton normally charges $10 per 1,000 points. With the full 120% bonus, the effective price falls to about 0.455 cents per point. For example, $50 buys 11,000 points.

‍

Is the 120% bonus available to every Hilton Honors member?

‍

Not necessarily. Hilton may target the offer, so some members see a different bonus. Log in to your account and check the Buy Points page to see your offer.

‍

Is it better to buy Hilton points or transfer Amex points?

‍

During this sale, buying is often cheaper. The Amex to Hilton 30% transfer bonus, which ends October 14, 2026, only beats buying if you value your Membership Rewards points at less than about 1.18 cents each.

‍

Do purchased Hilton points count toward elite status?

‍

No. Purchased points, including bonus points, do not count toward Hilton Honors elite status.

‍

Can I get a refund on Hilton points I bought?

‍

No. Points purchases are nonrefundable, which is why you should confirm award availability for your exact dates before you buy.

‍

Do Hilton Honors points expire?

‍

Hilton Honors points expire after 24 consecutive months with no earning or redeeming activity. Buying points counts as activity and resets the clock.

‍

The Bottom Line

‍

Hilton's 120% bonus is the cheapest way to buy Hilton points we have seen, at about 0.455 cents each. It makes sense when you have a specific stay in mind, the award room is available and the cash price divided by the points price lands above that break-even line.

If you are buying on speculation or the hotel you want is inexpensive in cash, skip it. Either way, join Kudos for free to compare the cards in your wallet and earn the most on every purchase, points included.
