Can You Pay Allstate With a Credit Card?
Yes. Allstate lets you pay many policies with a credit or debit card, either as a one-time payment or through its Recurring Credit Card Pay Plan. Payment options depend on your policy type, and life insurance policies have their own payment process.
Before you switch to a card, check one detail: if you are enrolled in Allstate's Easy Pay Plan, a one-time card payment removes you from the plan and its discount for the rest of your policy period.
Should You Pay Allstate With a Credit Card?
Reasons to Use a Card
- Rewards: You can earn cash back, points, or miles on a bill you pay anyway.
- Automatic payments: The Recurring Credit Card Pay Plan lets you pick your payment date and frequency, which helps you avoid a missed payment.
- Fraud protection: Credit cards limit your liability for unauthorized charges.
Reasons to Think Twice
- Lost Easy Pay discount: Allstate's Easy Pay Plan, which draws from a bank account, offers lower installment fees and a premium discount of up to 5% on certain policy types where available. Paying by card can cost you that discount.
- Interest: If you carry a balance, your card's variable APR can quickly outweigh the rewards you earn.
- Higher utilization: A large six-month or annual premium can push up your credit utilization until you pay it off.
If a rewards card earns less than the Easy Pay discount would save you, paying from your bank account is the better deal.
How Do You Pay Allstate With a Credit Card?
Allstate lists several ways to pay, depending on your policy type:
- My Account or the Allstate mobile app: Log in, open the Payment Center, and make a one-time payment or set up automatic payments.
- QR code: Scan the QR code on your bill with your phone for a one-time electronic payment.
- Phone: Call Allstate at 800-901-1732.
- Your agent: Ask your Allstate agent to process a one-time payment using your checking account or credit card.
Allstate sends a confirmation email after online and phone payments, and online payments generally show on your policy within 24 hours. Save the confirmation and check your card statement to make sure the charge posted.
To pay by card automatically, enroll in the Recurring Credit Card Pay Plan in the Payment Center. Keep paying manually until you receive your enrollment confirmation and schedule of future payments.
How Does Paying Allstate With a Card Affect Your Credit Score?
Charging a premium raises your card balance, which increases your credit utilization ratio until you pay it down. A temporary dip in your score is possible right after a large charge, especially on a card with a low limit.
Paying your card bill on time every month builds positive payment history. For more on keeping balances in check, see our tips to lower your credit card utilization rate.
What Are Other Ways to Pay Allstate?
Easy Pay Plan: Automatic withdrawals from your bank account on a date you choose, with lower installment fees and a premium discount of up to 5% on certain policy types where available.
Your bank's bill pay: Add Allstate as a payee in your bank's online bill pay service.
Cash: Allstate accepts cash payments at Western Union locations that offer the Quick Collect program.
Which Credit Card Should You Use for Allstate?
Insurance premiums usually earn a card's base rate, so a card with a strong flat rate on everyday purchases is often the simplest choice. Compare that rate against any discount you would give up by leaving Easy Pay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Allstate Accept Credit Cards?
Yes. Allstate accepts credit and debit cards for one-time payments and through its Recurring Credit Card Pay Plan for many policy types. Check the Payment Center in My Account for the options on your policy.
Will I Lose My Easy Pay Discount if I Pay by Credit Card?
Yes. Allstate says a one-time credit or debit card payment unenrolls you from the Easy Pay Plan and removes the discount for the rest of your policy period. You cannot re-enroll until the policy renews. California customers are not affected because they do not have the Easy Pay discount.
Can I Set Up Automatic Credit Card Payments With Allstate?
Yes. The Recurring Credit Card Pay Plan lets you pre-authorize card payments, choose the date and frequency, and update your card at any time through the Payment Center.
What Happens if My Allstate Payment Fails?
A card payment can fail if the card is over its limit, expired, or the payment is disputed. A missed payment can lead to a lapse in coverage or cancellation, so make the payment again in the Payment Center or contact your agent right away.
