Can You Pay Sezzle With a Credit Card?
Yes, with limits. Sezzle lets you add a debit or credit card to your account and use it for the down payment on an order. Sezzle's help center also lists restrictions on using cards for later installments and early payments, so a linked bank account is often required for part of the plan.
Here is how the rules work, and when paying Sezzle with a credit card makes sense.
What Payment Methods Does Sezzle Accept?
Sezzle accepts debit cards, credit cards, bank accounts, and prepaid cards, but each one works only for certain payments:
- Down payment: A debit or credit card is required. Bank accounts cannot be used for down payments.
- Scheduled installments: A linked bank account can be your default. Sezzle's help pages say cards cannot be the default for scheduled installments on new orders, though one article notes credit cards can be used for scheduled installments, so check what your Payment Methods screen allows.
- Early payments: On orders placed after August 28, 2025, you cannot pay early directly with a debit or credit card. You can pay early from your linked bank account or your Sezzle Balance.
- Prepaid cards: These can pay off existing installments but cannot be used for new orders or scheduled installments.
Sezzle also will not let you add a card that expires within the next 60 days.
Should You Pay Sezzle With a Credit Card?
Benefits
- Rewards: You can earn cash back or points on the payments you put on your card.
- Card protections: Credit cards include fraud protection and the ability to dispute charges with your issuer.
Drawbacks
- Interest: If you carry a balance, your card's variable APR can wipe out the rewards and the benefit of splitting the purchase.
- Two sets of due dates: You have to track both your Sezzle schedule and your card's billing cycle.
- Issuer limits: Some card issuers restrict buy now, pay later transactions, so a card may be declined.

How Do You Add a Credit Card to Sezzle?
- In the Sezzle app or dashboard, go to Account, then Payment Methods.
- Click Add Card and enter your card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing address. Sezzle also lets you instantly link eligible credit cards by signing in to your card provider.
- Set the card as your default for down payments if you want it used automatically.
- Add a bank account if you want to use it for scheduled installments or early payments.
If a payment has already been made or has started processing, you cannot change the payment method for it.
How Does Using Sezzle Affect Your Credit Score?
Charging installments to a credit card raises your card balance and utilization until you pay it off. Pay your card in full each month to keep that effect small and avoid interest.
Sezzle itself can report to the credit bureaus in some cases. Repayments are reported if you enroll in its Sezzle Up credit reporting program, and Sezzle says it may report information on its monthly installment loans. Late or missed payments on reported accounts can hurt your score.
What Fees and Alternatives Should You Know About?
Sezzle may charge reschedule fees, late payment fees, and service fees on some loans. Sezzle displays reschedule fees before you confirm a new date, so review them before you move a payment.
If you would rather avoid card interest entirely, link a bank account for your installments. You will not earn rewards, but you also will not risk carrying a credit card balance.
Which Credit Card Should You Use With Sezzle?
The best card is one you pay in full every month. After that, a card that earns well on the type of store you are shopping at can add a little more value to your down payment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Use a Credit Card for Every Sezzle Payment?
Not always. A card works for the down payment, but Sezzle limits cards for scheduled installments on new orders and does not allow direct card payments for early payments on orders placed after August 28, 2025.
Does Sezzle Charge Fees?
It can. Sezzle lists reschedule fees, late payment fees, and service fees on some loans. Your card issuer may also charge interest if you carry a balance.
Does Sezzle Report to Credit Bureaus?
Sezzle reports repayments if you are enrolled in Sezzle Up, and it may report its monthly installment loans. Check your plan's terms to see what applies.
Can I Earn Credit Card Rewards on Sezzle Payments?
Generally yes, on the payments charged to your card, as long as your issuer allows the transaction.
