Verizon Visa Card Review 2026: 4% Back, One Big Catch

The Verizon Visa® Card pays 4% back on groceries, gas and dining with no annual fee, which puts it above most flat rate cards on paper. This Verizon Visa Card review looks at where that 4% applies, where it does not, how it compares to other cards, and whether the rewards structure is worth it if you are not already a Verizon customer.
The short version: the earning rate is strong, but the rewards come as Verizon Dollars, you must be a Verizon customer to qualify, and the one purchase you might expect to earn 4% on does not.
Some coverage lists this product as the Verizon Visa Signature® Card, so confirm the exact product name on the issuer's page before you apply.
The information for the Verizon Visa® Card has been collected independently by Kudos. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

The Verizon Visa Card Review at a Glance
The card is issued by Synchrony Bank and has a $0 annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. It earns 4% back with no spending limit on groceries, gas and EV charging, dining, and Verizon hardware, phone and accessory purchases. Everything else earns 1%.

Rewards come as Verizon Dollars, and NerdWallet values each at $1. That means a $100 purchase in a 4% category earns $4 in Verizon Dollars, which you can apply to a bill, a new phone or accessories.
Verizon Dollars cannot be turned into cash back. If you would rather get a deposit or statement credit you can spend anywhere, that is a real limit, and it is the main reason this card earns a 4 out of 5 rating from us instead of a perfect score.

How the 4% Earning Works
The 4% categories cover everyday spending most households have: grocery stores, gas stations and EV chargers, restaurants and takeout, and purchases of Verizon devices and accessories. There is no cap on the 4%, which matters because many bonus category cards limit the top rate to a set amount per year or quarter.

The Catch: Your Verizon Bill Earns Only 1%
Here is the surprise for many applicants. The monthly Verizon bill does not earn 4%. Wireless and Fios bill payments earn the base 1%, even though the card carries the company's name. Hardware, phone and accessory purchases do earn 4%.
Say your Verizon bill is $100 a month. At 1%, paying it with this card earns $12 a year in Verizon Dollars. Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on a $100 monthly bill at the 1% base rate. That is a nice bonus, but it is nowhere near the 4% many people assume they will get. That makes the Verizon Visa Card a poor fit if you hoped to cut your phone bill with rewards. If your goal is the best way to pay that bill, see our guide to paying a Verizon bill with a credit card and our list of cards that pay for your phone bill.
The $150 Welcome Offer
You will receive a $150 statement credit after one purchase of any amount within 90 days of opening the account, for applicants approved by Jan. 13, 2027. There is no minimum spending requirement beyond that first purchase, which is unusually easy to meet.
Who Can Get the Verizon Visa Card?
You must be a Verizon wireless Account Owner or Manager with up to 12 lines, or a Fios Account Owner. Prepaid customers and Verizon business customers are not eligible.
That eligibility rule is the biggest limit on the card. Most 4% cards are open to anyone who is approved. This one is open only to people who already pay Verizon.
If you are on a family plan, the account owner or manager is the person who needs to apply. A line user who is not the owner or manager cannot apply on their own, so check who holds the account before you start an application.
Perks and Everyday Details
The Verizon autopay discount still applies when you pay your bill with the card, up to $10 per month per line, or up to $20 off eligible Fios plans. Cardholders also get two free TravelPass days per year.
You can redeem Verizon Dollars for statement credits, Verizon and Fios bills, phones and accessories, travel or gift cards, but not as cash back.
How the Verizon Visa Card Compares to Other Cards
Verizon Visa Card vs. a 2% Flat Rate Card
The case for the Verizon Visa Card is simple math, and it assumes your spending lands in the 4% categories.
Imagine you spend $1,000 a month in groceries, gas and dining. At 4%, that earns $480 a year. On a 2% flat rate card it earns $240, so the Verizon Visa Card pays about $240 more. Calculation formulated by Kudos, based on $12,000 in annual spending in the 4% categories, compared with a 2% flat rate.

The Citi Double Cash® Card has a $0 annual fee and earns 2% on everything (1% when you buy and 1% as you pay), which makes it the easier card to use. The Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit Card also has a $0 annual fee and earns 1.5% cash back on every purchase. Both pay rewards you can take as cash, which Verizon Dollars cannot do. If a meaningful part of your budget falls outside groceries, gas and dining, a flat rate card keeps up.
Verizon Visa Card vs. AT&T Points Plus® Card From Citi
AT&T's card is the closest rival. The AT&T Points Plus® Card from Citi has a $0 annual fee and earns 3 ThankYou® Points per $1 at gas and EV charging stations, 2 points per $1 at grocery stores, 2 points per $1 on AT&T products and services, including bill payment, and 1 point per $1 on everything else.
It also gives a $20 statement credit each billing cycle in which you spend $1,000 or more on purchases, for up to $240 a year. That rewards steady spending, while the Verizon Visa Card rewards spending in specific categories.
[[ COMPARE_CARD * {"ids": ["2900", "8168"], "bestCategoryIds":["17", "18", "19"], "bestForTexts":["Verizon Customers", "AT&T Customers"]} ]]
The biggest difference is the phone bill. AT&T's card earns 2 points per $1 on the AT&T bill, while the Verizon Visa Card earns just 1% on the Verizon bill. The Verizon card wins on dining, which the AT&T card does not reward, and its rewards stay in Verizon Dollars, while the AT&T card earns flexible ThankYou Points.

Can Kudos Lower Your Verizon Bill?
Since your Verizon bill earns only 1% on this card, cutting the bill itself can save you more than the rewards ever will. Verizon is one of the providers supported by AI bill negotiation in Kudos Premium.
An AI agent negotiates your phone bill with Verizon on your behalf, so you skip the hold music and retention calls. You keep 100% of whatever it saves, with no commission. Results depend on your plan and account.

- Welcome bonus tracking: Alerts show how close you are to meeting a new card's spending requirement.
- A savings guarantee: Yearly plans come with a 90-day savings guarantee.
The free version of Kudos still shows you which card in your wallet earns the most at checkout. That lets you use the Verizon Visa Card for groceries, gas and dining, and another card for everything else.
Who Should Get the Verizon Visa Card?
The card suits Verizon customers who spend heavily at grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants and who will use Verizon Dollars on bills or devices. If you are already planning a phone upgrade, the 4% on Verizon hardware makes the card even more useful, since you can fund part of the purchase with rewards you earned elsewhere. It is a weaker fit if you want cash back, need phone protection, or spend a lot outside the 4% categories.
Wondering how it fits next to the cards you already carry? The when to use which credit card decision tree helps you decide which card to reach for at checkout.
The Bottom Line
The Verizon Visa Card is a good everyday card for current Verizon customers who spend in the 4% categories, and the $150 welcome offer is easy money. The catch is real: your Verizon bill earns only 1%, the rewards are Verizon Dollars, and you must already be a customer to qualify. If you meet the eligibility rules and your spending fits, it is worth adding. Otherwise, a flat rate card is simpler, and Kudos Premium bill negotiation may do more for your Verizon bill than any card.
